Autism: The Ayurvedic approach What is Autism - Autism is a developmental anomaly during pregnancy, which is complex, lifelong, and typically appears during early childhood. Autism spectrum disorder is the most prevalent of all developmental disabilities. It affects the nervous system and impacts the cognitive, emotional, social and physical health of the affected individual. People with autism can have a wide range of symptoms, including difficulty with communication, difficulties with social interactions, obsessive interests and repetitive behaviours. Some early signs of autism are not visible, but they are important. If early signs are recognized, they can be treated with early intervention, which may help to reduce symptoms and support development and learning. The prevalence of autism has been increasing rapidly in developed countries. It is estimated that approximately 1% of children have autism. Autism has an Ayurvedic perspective, which implies that the treatment incorporates the balancing act of food, diet, exercise, rest, play, and sleep in treating the central nervous system disorders. At Ayushman Bhava Ayurveda, we do management of autism-affected children through three main treatment lines. The good result for the child would be ensured by the successful implementation of these interventions. The duration of the therapy can range from 3 weeks to 5 weeks, depending on the severity, and the internal drugs can be used for up to 3 years. Repetition of therapies in small classes, either individually or intermittently in combination, can provide significant benefits and can be long-term support for the child with an intellectual disability. Autism: The ayurvedic viewpoint A behavioral abnormality with its roots situated in the malfunctioning neuropsychological system and disorder in the digestive and metabolic system is considered to be an Unmada by Ayurveda. There are places where one or more of the mental abilities can go wrong. There are various types of inappropriate behavior shown by the person as a result of the distortion of the normal mind, intellect, conscious awareness, memory, desire, manner, and behavior in the whole concept of unmada. In the concept of unmada, we can see some of the faculties that are affected by the disorders of the Autism spectrum. There are impairments of Manas, mind-total or partial loss of sensory perception, and Buddhi, which could be irregular as shown in savant skill. Samjna Jnana, an aware presence, is seen to be lost in their own environment, barring one or more sensory stimuli. Bhakti, ability, inherent willingness to connect with others, Seela, manners, socially inappropriate outbursts and adherence to strict rigid routines are some of the qualities. Motor stereotypes that are improper and compulsive, learned skills, poor socialization skills, failure to obey orders, loss of healthy habits, etc., are some of the activities that are labeled as Cheshta. Knowledge of acquisition, one of the essential roles of Manas, is disrupted in Unmada. When Manas is in tune with Atma, Indriya, and Indriyartha, it is called Jnanotpathi. Fetal genetic makeup, Beeja dushti, antenatal psychological stress, non-congenial dietetics, disrupting metabolism, and defects in the parental psychological background are included in the etiopathology of Unmada and ASD. According to Ayurveda, In addition to the diet and activities of the pregnant woman, her mental state plays a significant role in the development of the well-being and disease of the child. Can Autism be prevented before conception: Consanguineous marriages were against the law in Ayurveda by Charaka and Sushruta. In order to prevent psychological disorders, consanguineous marriages should be avoided, according to Acharya Bhela. The time of conception, the role of parents during coitus, and bad ahar vihara contribute to mental illness and give primary importance to periconceptional practices followed by father and mother. It is recommended that preconception counseling be given. It has been recommended by Acharya Charaka to avoid Majja bhava and atmaj bhava if you want to prevent a baby from being born with a disability. A pregnant woman's excessive sleep, over-consumption of alcohol, and poor memory can have a negative effect on her IQ. The fetal heart, which is the seat of consciousness, becomes active in the fourth month of pregnancy and expresses its desires through the mother, which is called Daurhruda. If the wishes and wishes of the person are not honored and satisfied, they can lead to the development of an intellectual disability. During the second stage of labor, Sushruta pointed out that the instructions to relieve the pain of women with Assanaprasava can result in psychological abnormality. In Ayurveda Neonatology, the ultimate first-line treatment of the newborn baby is to support respiration called Pranpratyagamana, which is the method in the mode of cleaning. The Dhee dhairya atmadi is a part of the Ayurveda system. The main remedy is adequate counseling and the use of particular medhya Rasayanas is recommended.
